Motorcycle Helmets is probably one of the most important motorcycle gear a rider can have. It protects a riders head upon impact and it is also used as a reflective gear for other drivers to see you. Wearing your motorcycle helmet can protect you from serious injury and even death. Most states require motorcycle riders to wear motorcycle helmets to prevent future casualties. There have been many debates from a group of motorcycle riders who argue that wearing a helmet is actually more dangerous. They site vision and hearing impairment. They argue that while wearing a helmet, they are unable to hear their environment and unable to see without impairment. They do admit that when getting into an accident, a helmet would save lives, but also stress that wearing a helmet could also increase the chances of getting into a fatal accident. What Do I Look For In A Motorcycle Helmet? Your first priority when buying a helmet is fit. Make sure the helmet fits snuggly on to your head. A loose helmet can easily fall off during an accident. Remember that a motorcycle helmet is there to protect your head and not there for style. The common mistake a rider makes is choosing a helmet by its style and not by its protection features. Another thing to look for when choosing a helmet is its certification. There are 2 different types of certifications, DOT and SNELL M2000. D.O.T. stands for Department of Transportation, a legal helmet has to be certified by them. SNELL M2000 is another certification you should be looking for. They do more stringent testing on the helmets to assure that your head will be protected against any impact. Many manufacturers have their helmets tested for D.O.T. and SNELL before they release them. Some of the namebrands are HJC, Shoei, Arai, Nolan, KBC, Cyber, Skid Lid, and many more. |
